I had one of these super maple finished Superstar kits (including a 8' and 10') in the 80's and the were indeed great drums. The numbers I got back corresponded to a Tama Star Maple kit (which just isn't right at all): Link to the Tama Star Maple Kit catalog page So I'm wondering if anyone would be able to help me ID this kit and, for bonus credit, comment upon the value of said kit at $600. According to tama's website, you can figure out the manufacture year of your starclassic drum from the serial number. With the Starclassic Serial number system, you apply the 'subtract 10 system' to the first. A: Only Tama Starclassic Maple and Performer Drums have serial numbers that indicate the age of the drums. Please use the information below to determine the production date. The serial number will always be to the RIGHT of the model number. The model number of the drum is on the LEFT (IE: TT-912Y). On every Yamaha Drum logo badge there are 2 sets of number/letter sequences. There is a serial number on the Tama badge - 151646 and has 10 tuning lugs per side with plain chromed hardware, plain varnished wood finish and Starclassic 20 strand snare.
